Exuberant Koreans in Pearl of the Orient

Before I begin, I want everyone to know that I have nothing against Koreans, either from North or South. I have Korean friends and sometimes we hang out together, especially because in the current community I belong, they literally, flourish. Though with some of them, there’s some confusion, honestly speaking, I don’t have any grudge. So I think, I’m cleared?. “I hope…”

I heard a joke about four guys bragging with one another and they are in a ship. These guys differ in nationalities, American, Korean, Japanese and Filipino. The American stood up suddenly and threw his Mobile Phone to the sea and the other guys asked him why, he answered, “Oh, we have lots of those in our country.” Immediately, after that, the Korean also stood up and threw his ipod into the sea and in the same way, the other guys asked why. He answered, “Oh, we have lots of those in our country.” The Japanese, of course will not let the others brag before him and he threw his laptop to the sea and just said, “Oh, we have lots of those in our country.” The Filipino, who doesn’t have something in his baggage that time, stood up, grab the Korean and threw him into the sea saying, “Ooops, we have lots of those in our country.”

Funny isn’t it because wherever I turn here in Baguio City, Philippines, they are scattered in all places, the Koreans. They are in the malls, market, schools and in the local television, they speak our native tongue (hahaha, it’s dubbed of course). I have managed to cross upon the statistics and I found out that last year, there are more than 900,000 living in the country. This number is the ones staying here for quiet some time and those who are just visiting are not counted. Another information I got is that, we have more or less 80000 Koreans entering the land every month. And one of my comrade says, they are trying to invade the Philippines little by little.

I am not saying that we don’t like them here. In fact, they are big help in the country’s economy because almost all of them, just spend their cash here. It is very much rare to see a Korean work or even establish business here in the Philippines. Most of them are students or their business is in Korea but their family is here. Yet, I hope they won’t forget that they are in a foreign land that other races used to colonize before and know that it was a struggle. In other words, please, don’t mess with us, especially here in our own land, you won’t like it.

You sound very insecure – I hope other Filipinos don’t think the way you do.

You should realize that there are 9 million Filipinos working or living overseas.

I hope people in other countries where there are many Filipinos do not think like you do.

How pathetic and narrow-minded indeed!

oh, dude, thanks for your haughty response to my suggestion. you just made it worse. you should realize that those 9 million Filipinos know their place in a foreign land, and for you guys, you should too. i’m not generalizing, that’s why it’s only a pointer, but there are just some who thinks, here, they are the boss.

P.S. btw, didn’t i made it clear, i got Koreans friends, and they will also admit that there are fellows who trespass the line, they feel sorry bout it.

I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with them going to the Philippines.

In fact, my Korean boss (I’m working here in Seoul) is actually asking me on tips on how to invest in the Philippines. I only can see anything but bad news for the Philippines who can really use a positive cash flow for our economy to flourish.

Make them feel welcome in the Philippines just as much as they welcomed me here in their country.

They’re very nice people in general, party animals if I may add, especially after office hours.

Yeah, that’s right bro. I acknowledged that they are really a big help in the economy. The purpose of the post is not to question their stay here, they are much accepted here in pinas. Their number were just astonishingly funny, because they really come together in packs, generally in all places here in the summer capital. The last sentence of the post are just a commentary suggestion because there are some who really are annoying but the post does not want to imply something.

it just means our country is nice

I agree on the “dont mess with us” plight… Ive been working with koreans for about 5 years now and the best thing that I like with them is the FOOD!… some korean teens are also bundles of hotness but as they age they tend to either become fat or get shorter and get curly locks… theyre a pain in the a$$ sometimes but better stick with them than a pinoy boss…

lol that was a pretty funny but messed up joke. I have to agree with ‘warm’, there are so much more Filipinos going abroad. For the last few lines of the post, don’t give them reasons to mess with you and they wont, its as simple as that.

I’m half Filipino half British, I have tons of Korean friends here in Philippines and I haven’t had a problem with them, the only problem I had with them was when I got a Korean girlfriend which I’m still with. A lot of Koreans don’t favor Koreans being with non-Koreans, but I just nudged that issue to the side and after a while, they didn’t mind.

I even went to Korea early this year for 6 months and I went to school there for about 3 of those months. All Koreans are pretty friendly if you can adapt, they might seem snobbish, in a rush and stressed, but that’s part of their fast paced culture unlike Philippines which is extremely slow to me. Well, i put aside those bad traits because I could understand why they were so stressed since I was slowly getting stressed out too.

All I’m saying is, Koreans are great. In my honest opinion, they are a lot more friendly and civilized than a lot of Filipinos that I’ve met.

I would like to see this joke flipped around and seeing all the countries like the US, England, Canada, etc. throwing Filipinos off the ship. How would you feel and react to that now?

But I understand you have nothing against Koreans……….I think :)
