The Importance of Impressions In and Out
Running small businesses like our Internet Computer Cafe is quite different from online business such as blogging. Online and non-online business are not similar because of the fact that in non-online business, the products and services are more tangible and customers are more personal because the interaction is face to face. Yet, even though there are differences between the two, still there is something in online business that we can implement to our non-online business. This past weekend, I learned something from blogging that I need to apply to our Internet Cafe business. This is the importance of Impressions.
Impression is the impact that a business creates specifically to potential customers. In an Internet cafe business, everyone is a potential customer. The first thing to keep in mind is to make everybody know that your business exists. I’ve been away in our place for sometime because of study and when I visited our shop, there was not even a single hint outside that our business was there. That probably is the number one reason, why our income is diminishing. When we opened the shop, we put banners and distributed some flyers to make impressions and in that point, our computers are not even enough for our customers but now, we can hardly get new customers because our banners was not in place already.
These are the things that you need to impress outside the business.
- Brand name – this is usually the name of your business. Something that is easy to remember.
- Business Category – in my case, it is an Internet Cafe
- The Services and Product that you offer – The first two is important but this area needs not to be neglected to be impressed outside. Everybody passing by outside need to know what can they get in your business.
- The Edge of your business – What specific is your difference with others in your business category. This is especially true, if in your location, you are not the only one having that category. In our location, there is also other Internet Cafe so we must impress outside that our Shop is much better than the other.
Impression is not only important outside. Once a potential customer already enters the shop, your impact should be greater. The effort that you produced to put impression should be carried more on the inside than the outside. Remember that in business, especially to those offering services, we don’t aim to have one-time customer but we want to have a loyal customer. Once a potential customer enters your business, know that he has presuppositions brought in because of the impression you created. Making the customer loyal depends on how you deliver his expectations.
These are the things that you need to impress inside the business.
- The products and services that are impressed outside should be available as much as possible. The reason why a customer entered the shop is because he believed that the business can answer his need. If his need was met, this can be the primary reason that he will be a loyal customer.
- The customer must also feel that his presence in the shop matters. Inter-personal skills of business personnel are needed in this aspect. As much as possible, when a potential customer enters the house, we must know what they need and how we can help them and make it sure that they will get a feeling that we really want to satisfy their need. If it is also possible, like in our business category, befriend every customer but make it sure that you are not getting much into their affairs.
- Customers will only stay for a while inside your business house, especially if it’s their first time so in that limited time, make it sure that they have a pleasant experience to keep them coming back. You are not alone in your business category and remember the saying that “first impression, lasts.” That is very much true in almost all businesses today. In this, take note of the surroundings, ventilation, noise, overall impact of the house, and all the whow and the aahh.
Building loyal customers is the main goal of having good impressions in and out. And of course, loyal customers can bring boost to your income. Checking impressions and doing something about it is not a one-time thing, it is a continuous process that needs innovation at some time. This probably is a reason why an enterprise has a promotions department, to create impression for the company all the time. In a small business, though we don’t have the leisure to have that department, we can not just neglect it. It is an aspect that will make sure that the small business will stay and grow to its potential.
