People living in The UK are seemingly so in touch with their senses that they can recall the smell associated with a scene or location just by looking at a of it. That’s according to a study released by a major camera manufacturer to mark the launch of its latest digicams, which they say capture memories in more clear detail than ever before.

The study, which was conducted across 23 states, made public that 47% of UK folk surveyed can remember the scent connected with an image, and many said they would actively take an image of something based solely on the way that it smells. The results also show that British ladies are much more likely to pay attention to the perfume of their environment when taking a picture than men, with over 1/4 stating they’d capture a picture of something that smells appealing for instance a rose garden. This research is very important for those that are looking for new Canon digital cameras.

Commenting on the research, Dr Raquel Heinz, a leading world expert in the mental science of smell and a professor at a major college, announced : This research shows just how strong the linkage between our memories and the sense of smell really is. While a picture can visually remind us of a specific point in time, if it is accompanied by smell it’ll arouse more emotional and evocative memories more than any other memory trigger.

When asked to rate a list of smells that were most certain to trigger a memory, over 53% of continentals surveyed named the scent of freshly cut grass as their top Memory smell, with the hint of suntan lotion and baby talc coming in at 2nd and 3rd.

Talking about the results, Dr Heinz recounted: “For a number of years scientists have conducted research into the link between our senses and our capability to recall memories. My studies show that our sense of smell in particular has a uniquely intimate and direct connection with the area of the brain that controls emotional memory. Its not surprising that so many people selected freshly cut grass and sunscreen as their top memory smells, as these smells are strongly connected with youth – the time when our first smell memories are being formed. For most smells connected with youth such as the scent of a hot summers day in the fairground have a particularly robust capability to trigger an emotional memory that takes them back to their youth.”

A representative for a major digital camera manufacturer comments: “While a picture is the ultimate way to capture and document lifes most dear memories, we wanted to try something a little different and see whether there had been another factor involved in recollecting a certain moment in time.” The company has been exploring every angle that people pursue when wanting for buy a new Sony digital camera.

This research into the smells linked with memories shows that not only do British folks have an extraordinary capability to remember certain scenes and locations based on smells and smells, the majority also make a conscious effort to maximize the power of these memories for themselves.

Compact digicams can help to capture memories better than ever seen, and although they do not quite capture smell just yet, they certainly can rouse the memory of it! So when you are looking for new Nikon digital cameras keep your eyes, and nose, open wide.
